CHLOROTIC STREAK & SMUT

Routine cane inspections by Victor and the mills field staff have found a number of diseased blocks throughout the district. Of most concern is Chlorotic streak a disease that thrives during wet years and can significantly affect dollar returns to the grower. Yield reductions of up to 40% and poor ratooning are characteristic of this disease. Many caused by waterlogging due to the flooding events of the last two years. Chlorotic streak can be managed through the use of disease free planting material, hot water treatment and improved drainage of low lying blocks.
