2012 Season Summary A crop of 232,171.90 tonnes of cane were crushed at Rocky Point mill in 2012, with a season average CCS of 15.27.
The growing season was highlighted with dry conditions, with minimal time lost to wet weather. This had a dramatic affect on the tonnes of cane produced in the district for 2012. Prospects for the 2013 crop and beyond are much improved. Although the overall tonnes were down due to the extended dry period, the CCS was the highest on record. The mill reliability was very good with factory throughput averaging 18,100 tonnes per week which enabled the crop to be crushed in just over 13 weeks, a good result considering the late start due to problems with the co-generation facility. Over 800 hectares have been planted since crushing finished on the 27th of November paving the way for productivity increases in the future.
Having reduced the mills downtime in half over the last five years, the slack maintainance program for 2012/2013 will focus on maximizing sugar recovery and improved factory performance.
